THURSDAY'S THRIFT...show and tell

Hello and welcome to Thursday's thirft where I like to share with you my thrift store finds.  I have been thrifting for many, many years and I have always had a love for thrifted items especially if they are vintage, collectible or sentimental things that remind me of my childhood days!  Anyway, today I want to tell you about how I have incorporated my thrift finds into my work with the Seniors.  I have had the opportunity to be creative with the activities I plan.  So, last week one of my activities included show and tell of my family members so that the lovely Seniors that I work with could get to know me a little better. I gathered up a few items from around my house {all thrifted of course} and went to work with everything packed in a vintage suitcase.  I was proud to show off my family members and  it seemed that the Seniors really enjoyed my little set up as I shared small details about each family member.

I included vintage shoes, cameras, photos, perfume, books, handbags and stop watches among other items...

s
I wanted to bring items that elderly people could relate to perhaps sparking a memory or feeling when they observed or even held the items.

This is a photo of my husband on our wedding day with his dad.

This photo is my stepfather and I. He has since passed away.  This was taken 11 years ago.  He had been in my life since I was 5.  He was very handsome and such a great man having raised my sisters and I.

This photo is my biological father who I never had a chance to get to know as he passed when I was still in diapers.  He was also handsome.

On a lighter note, this is my handsome husband  Rob and I on our wedding day 6 years ago....what a good kisser.

This is a photo of my mom when she was a toddler...

As the evening came to a close I packed up my items and snapped a few more photos having felt good about sharing my family with the people I work with.  I really enjoy working with the elderly...they bless me more than they could ever imagine.

This is the most awesome post! It is gorgeous and the heart behind it even more beautiful. I love old people, too. My grandmother is in her late 90's and she is one of my favorite people. Thanks for sharing this part of your life with us... it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

By the way thanks for loving my clutch, of course I would love to make one for you, but let me work on my version 1.1 so that it's good enough for giving away to my friends!

Gorgeous post! I really love the classic pieces and the stories behind them. I just think that a good story behind an item makes it all the more wonderful.

Sincerely,
Sabrina
