THURSDAY'S THRIFT...arsenic and old lace

Hi and welcome toThursday's Thrift.  I am linking this to post to Sandra's blog for Thrifty Thursday over at Lara's Vintage.  I found this shadow box for $2.99 at Goodwill.  I find one every year to inspire a shadow box haunted house.

I chose an acrylic paint that I thrifted...

I have more do dads and trinkets than you could imagine...all thrifted over the years.

I love going through them every October...so many to choose from....I have a habit of looking on the ground for found things too.

Need a body part?  I have them too.

Here is the beginning of what will be a room by room haunted mansion..this year's theme is arsenic and old lace.

I try to use mostly authentic vintage items as much as possible.

I am not nearly finished after 3 days.  I still have lots of layers to do and I have empty rooms to fill. I've only burnt myself 3 times with the hot glue gun.

This was the one I did last year...I used it for inspiration this year.

This one is huge...it took me a long time to finish it.  This was from the 3 maybe 4 years ago in  1527.

I plan to display them every Halloween as my collection grows.
Hi, I can't believe how the time flies in October which is my favorite month, I'm sure it's yours too.   I've been an absent blogger and I apologize but every October I make a shadow box haunted house which requires a lot of time and creative energy.  I absolutely love making these little hauntingly whimsical boxes.   I could do them all day and I have been.  I have not worn one inspiring/worth posting outfit since Inspiration Monday so I may as well just post what I have been up to.  I have been collecting do dads and little trinky dinks for years and years so all I have to do is buy the shadow box shaped like a house at the thrift for a few bucks and I am instantly inspired.   That's not all I have been up to but I have let this project consume most of my time.  Today I cleaned out my spare bedroom which had become a disaster since last march when we did our kitchen.  I just kept piling things in there, somewhat like our garage.  It's been a real eye opener as to how much I have hoarded over the years.  I have also learned that simplifying is not easy and takes time and lots of effort.  I will get there eventually.  I am getting there and have not thrifted, let's see how long I can hold out.  The spare room is now a bedroom again, simplified and clean...feels good but now I have to find space for my shadow box do dads and trinkets.  Rob offered me some space in the office downstairs, don't mind if I do.  Thanks honey!  I can at least store things down there so that the bedroom stays the way it is.  Anyway, hope you are well, I will be back around soon.  I have to finish up before Halloween...ha!  I am hoping to do an outfit post tomorrow.  What Fall projects are you working on ?  Dawn xo

This is really cool Dawn, and a great excuse for not posting an outfit post. Besides, who really dresses up when they're diggin' in to creativity anyway? Not me.

I've been busy screen printing and gearing up my Etsy shop for the holidays. That's the only time I make any money! So I can buy more clothes...so I can post more outfits. ;)
